The research and development claims process

We will always tailor the claim process to your needs, but generally we following each of the below steps ensure we can understand your business, maximise your research and development claim and achieve the best returns on your behalf.

1. Initial discussion

We’ll ensure you qualify for R&D tax credit claims and start to build out a picture of what projects may be applicable.

2. Consultation

We’ll speak in detail about what work you’re doing qualifies as Research & Development. We’ll start to get a full picture of the costs that are related to R&D.

3. Information gathering

We’ll work with you to obtain all of the detailed information required for the claim.

With your permission we can work with third parties such as an accountant to provide information on your behalf.

We’ll create a document that explains the R&D work you do, and why it qualifies for relief under the tax credit.

4. Final review

Before submitting your claim to HMRC we’ll ask you to review it to ensure the details are correct.

5. Claim submitted to HMRC

We’ll work with your accountant to submit the claim to HMRC on your behalf.

If HMRC dispute the claim we’ll defend it at no extra cost.

6. Receive your tax credit

HMRC normally processes claims within 1 month.

Once their work is done you’ll either receive your refund, either as a reduction in your corporation tax bill or a credit to your account.
